Mercedes Schlapp is not the White House's strategist communications adviser. It's not easy for Mercedes Schlapp as the advisor to strategic communications for the White House. Schlapp was focused throughout the process, working closely alongside the White House's team of political and legislative affairs, policy shops, and larger communications teams to oversee the implementation of policy. The focus has been on issues like the safety of schools, opioids, infrastructure and trade. In her current position the director does not interact extensively with journalists. In March, she received a flurry of media attention when it was known that her name would be a candidate for fill in Hope Hicks's role as director of communications. Mercedes Schlapp does not have an easy job as White House strategic communication adviser. It is not easy for Mercedes Schlapp to serve as the White House's strategy communications adviser. She has to contend with many challenges, such being a president who acts as his director of communications. Schlapp is, however, never lost focus on her mission. She works closely together with White House political affairs and the legislative team and policy shops as well as the larger communications operation in order to coordinate the policy roll-out. Her main area of focus has included issues like security at schools, trade, and the opioid epidemic. Her current work doesn't have any contact with journalists. The issue came up in March when she received a flurry of attention, when it became known that Schlapp would be an option to fill Hope Hicks's job as director of communications. There has been a lot of fighting. The ally of Schlapp's, Tony Sayegh, and an alternative candidate with the same name, Tony, started jousting with each other during the media coverage. Schlapp stated that, after she learned that the Washington Examiner had published an article that had negative reviews of Sayegh's persona, she phoned Sayegh to have a private discussion.
